Workshop Description:
This two-hour hybrid workshop explores practical ways of integrating AI tools into English teaching. Featuring three presentations by teacher-researchers, the workshop focuses on how AI can support materials design, debate instruction, oral training, and reflective learning.
Professor Brian David Phillips will demonstrate how AI can be used to create short readings and question-based activities for literature and oral training classes. Lecturer Michael Cheng will share classroom observations on using ChatGPT to support debate instruction and student argumentation. Professor Jing-fen Su will discuss the integration of ChatGPT Voice Mode into a Reading and Oral Training course, with attention to students’ speaking practice, confidence, and reflective learning.
By bringing together these three perspectives, the workshop highlights AI not as a replacement for teachers, but as a flexible teaching partner. Participants will come away with practical ideas for designing AI-assisted tasks, guiding student interaction with AI, and rethinking the role of English teachers in an increasingly AI-supported learning environment.
